Emotional Connection in a Crisis: Dr. Bukky
In the face of the current pandemic, as people everywhere are feeling emotionally activated, it is critical that LGBTQ+ parents know how to show up in difficult/emotional conversations with loved ones.
This begins with cultivating an ability to deeply listen with empathy and compassion, keeping one’s own emotional balance, and knowing what to do and not do in aims of being of service to our loved ones.   If you have ever had questions about how to respond in such conversations, ever felt doubt about your capacity to be helpful/comforting, or been criticized for being too focused on fixing, this workshop is for you.  Dr. Bukky joins Family Equality for part 2 of exploring some basic skills LGBTQ+ parents can use for navigating emotional/difficult conversations.  This session will focus on exploring empathy, empathy blocks, and what it looks like to lean in with empathy.  We will answer questions like what does it look like to ”lean in” with empathy”? Is everyone able to feel empathy?  Dr. Bukky aims to offer simple, concrete information to support you in cultivating your ability to show up for your family and friends in more emotionally attuned ways.
*Note: Because this is a fully interaction session, participants will be on camera and able to communicate with our presenter and one another.

Dr. Bukky joins Family Equality to discuss some basic skills LGBTQ+ parents can use for navigating emotional/difficult conversations.  Through an interactive and experiential virtual workshop, she will help participants answer questions such as what exactly does it look like to “hold emotional space” for someone? To “lean in” with empathy”? What is helpful or not helpful to do in such conversations? Is everyone able to feel empathy?  Dr. Bukky aims to offer simple, concrete information to support you in cultivating your ability to show up for your family and friends in more emotionally attuned ways.
