Story Hour: Ourshelves Edition!

May 15, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT

  • « WORLD PREMIERE: 10 Minute Heart-Brain Connection Meditation
  • PREMIERE Kid Skills: Baking for Beginners »

Looking for something fun for the whole family while you’re cooped up at home social distancing? Family Equality and OurShelves Diverse Kids Books, a queer-owned diverse kids’ book box service and advocacy effort, are joining forces to create a fun, educational Story Hour that kids and parents of all ages will enjoy!

Tune in LIVE here at the time of the event or over on Facebook for an hour of stories and solidarity with Natalie Meisner, author of My Mommy, My Mama, My Brother, and Me, and Kyle Lukoff, the Stonewall-award winning author of books like When Aidan Became A Brother, the Max and Friends series, Explosion at the Poem Factory, and more.

Natalie Meisner is a widely produced author of stage plays and an award-winning multi-genre author.  Her play BOOM BABY (about the lives of workers in the oil patch) won both the Canadian National Playwriting Award and the Alberta Playwriting Award.  Double Pregnant: Two Lesbians Make a Family topped nonfiction lists and was a finalist in the Atlantic Book Awards.  SPEED DATING FOR SPERM DONORS (Playwright’s Canada Press) was a hit at Lunchbox and Neptune Theatres. Her children’s book My Mommy, My Mama, My Brother & Me is available from Nimbus Publishing.  BADDY ONE SHOE is her first book of poems and her ode to the renegades of the past and present who fight the powers that be with laughter. Meisner is a wife and mom to two great boys and a Professor in the Department of English at Mount Royal University where she works in the areas of creative writing, drama, and gender/ sexuality studies. She has recently (this week!) been named Poet Laureate of Calgary, AB.     www.nataliemeisner.com

Kyle Lukoff is the Stonewall-award winning author of books like “When Aidan Became A Brother,” the “Max and Friends” series, “Explosion at the Poem Factory,” and more. While becoming a writer he worked as a bookseller for ten years, and then nine more years as a school librarian. He lives in New York City, and hopes you’re having a nice day. People can contact Kyle through the website, kylelukoff.com or on Twitter (@Shekels_Library).
